What does it do? We asked.

Last Saturday we had a contest to see if anyone could either remember or guess what a piece of equipment was/is used for. To our surprise, several people knew the answer, having seen similar pieces of equipment in action in the past.

Guesses included cleaning various vegetable crops like potatoes or garlic or for nuts. Some wondered if it might be used for separating wheat or other grains, de-husking corn or beans. There were folks who thought it might be part of some composting process and even a guess about working Goji berries.

The actual use is for shelling peas. Victor Stobbe, among others was correct in identifying the real purpose for this machine. Victor’s name was drawn from among the correct answers and he walked away with a market shopping bag full of products from our vendors.

Thanks also to everyone who participated in our Carrot Jenga last week. Sierra Janzen, Gerald Dreyer, and River (along with Dad Phil) were all winners of Castle Fun Park gift cards courtesy of Tourism Abbotsford.
