What’s happening this week at the Port Coquitlam Farmers Market!

It is corn and tomato season!!!!  Come by the market and stock up.  Sparkes Corn Barn is back for the 2nd week of corn season (yes, it’s a little early this year).  You know you have been waiting all year for some and now the wait is over.  Baker Breeze farm has some very ripe and juicy Heirloom tomatoes.  Before you know it the season will be gone.  So don’t wait.

It’s time for our 2nd annual Chili Cookoff.  The Coquitlam RCMP are back to go to go toe-to-toe with last year’s resigning champions, The Port Coquitlam Fire & Emergency Services.   Be sure to get here starting at 3:30 to try out both chilis and vote for the best.  It’s always a hot contest to see who is the chili champ.  This is a fundraiser to help raise funds to support up to 2 more families/seniors in the BC Farmers Market Nutritional Coupon Program.  The event is sponsored by the Downtown City of Port Coquitlam BIA.  We are also having a bbq hotdogs to help with this effort.  The goal is to raise $700.  Speaking of sponsorships, this weeks Farmers market is sponsored by Telus.

If the chili and hot dogs don’t fill you up or if you are more included to eat vegetarian/vegan then grab some plant powered food at Chickpea Food Truck.    At the General Store we supply lemonade, water, and organic coffee which this year is generously provided by Frog Friendly Wild Coffee.

There is always something fun for the kids to make in the Imagination Station at Kidz Corner.  Slinki, a jazz-blend trio will be performing on the Stage this week.  Come down to do your produce, prepared foods and crafts shopping.  There is something for everyone!

Leigh Square beside City Hall, from 3 to 7 p.m.
