Squamish Farmers' Market - Saturday September 21st, 2019
Hello Market Lovers!
We here in Squamish pride ourselves in being a fairly outdoorsy community (to put it mildly). We express our love for nature in many forms from hiking, biking, climbing and watersports to the clothes we wear and even the jewelry we adorn ourselves with. If jewelry is your thing, we have just the vendor for you! This week we will be hosting Chaerea Jewelery, designer of some of the most truly unique pieces you will ever find.
Chaerea makes jewellery with real plants and/or fungi. They are picked from the maker's garden and neighborhood. Some leaves are colored. Some don’t have leaves but are Japanese Yuzen and Unryuu paper collage. They are glued onto glass tiles or embedded in resin or bezel to make the pendants. Each piece is hand made and one of a kind. We bet you'll be hard-pressed to leave that booth without one of those awesome pieces in-hand!
Our entertainment this weekend is well-suited to our nature-loving theme. Our What's at the Market artist presentation will be by Kassandra Turmel, creater of Smudge Goods. She will be demonstrating how to pigments paints naturally using good found at market! Kassandra works primarily with ink, watercolour, and resin to create abstract art pieces that are greatly inspired by Canadian landscapes. She is driven to create art as a homage to her family, and to submerge herself into the freedom of artistic expression. Her bright and playful abstract landscape pieces reflect the joy she feels to be connected to nature, to art, and to her family always. See her demonstration next to the market tent from 10-12!
What market day would be complete without live music?! This Saturday we have brought in Pernell Reichert for your listening pleasure. If you are looking for finger-pickin', slide-playin', foot-stompin', razor-sharp entertainment - you're looking in the right place! Vancouver's own singer-songwriter Pernell Reichert entertains solo with his slow self-penned ballads, rockin' with his toe tappin' band, or as a duo with Ross on standup bass playing the amazing sounds of bluegrass. He will be tearing up the stage from 12-3 so bring your dancing boots!
We haven't forgotten our farm team for the weekend... it will be one of our fruit vendors' last market this summer as their season comes to an end. Come for one final visit to Rai Produce for a pint or two of their juicy fruits. Not to worry though! Snowy Mountain Organics will be with us until the end of season. For vegetables stop by Nutrient Dense Farm, Plenty Wild Farm or Laughing Crow Organics and don't forget the eggs and meat at Stony Mountain Farm and 108 Sausage for their final visit this season.
We're looking forward to market day, see you there!
